To start off cleaning your brass door kick plate, you want to clean it as much as possible through basic cleaning with a dry cotton rag to remove any dirt on the surface. This quick clean allows future cleaning to be more efficient. Once you have rubbed down the door kick plate, use a vacuum cleaner or a sweeping brush to clean the area around where you just cleaned. This is to prevent the dirt getting in the way of wash rags later in the cleaning process.
Step 1: Soap and Water
The next step in the cleaning process is to add warm water and soap to a bucket and take it to the door where the door kick plate is installed.
Using a soft sponge, wipe the door kick plate thoroughly. Once you have done wiping the door kick plate once, dip the sponge back into the water to clean it once again.
Once the door kick plate is clean and you are happy with it, dry the plate using a cloth towel.
Step 2: Restoring The Shine
To restore the shine on a door kick plate, mix 3 teaspoons of salt into a pint bottle of vinegar. Then mix the salt in to the point which it dissolves.
The idea is that if used in a bottle with a spray cap, you can directly spray it onto the door kick plate.
Now, you can spray the vinegar which is salty over the brass and allow it to sit for 10 minutes approximately. After around 10 minutes, you need to wipe the door kick plate using a damp sponge and then dry it using a towel.
Step 3: Polishing The Plate
You can then polish the door kick plate by wiping it down with mineral oil or linseed oil which has been applied to a soft cloth.

instead of using all the frontier home remedies... you can use Brasso (or other) for $5 a bottle at any hardware/superstore.
